Wright Memorial Bridge Company and Kitty Hawk Company Records, PC.5013
Abstract
The Kitty Hawk Company was formed in 1929 with the chief purpose of constructing a toll bridge over the Currituck Sound from Point Harbor to Kitty Hawk, to collect tolls, and to develop land in the Kitty Hawk beach area. This included selling lots, building roads, and providing necessary infrastructure to the development. On 7 July 1930, the Wright Memorial Bridge Company was formed with the same purposes as the Kitty Hawk Company. This collection includes a notebook of meeting minutes of the Wright Memorial Bridge Company and the Kitty Hawk Company, as well as stock certificates, financial records, and correspondence.

Historical Note
The Kitty Hawk Company was formed in 1929 with the chief purposes of constructing a toll bridge over the Currituck Sound from Point Harbor to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, to collect tolls and developing land in the Kitty Hawk Beach area. This included selling lots, building roads, and providing necessary infrastructure to the development. The original directors were R. Bruce Etheridge, W. G. Gaither, W. O. Saunders, L. C. Blades, Charles W. Harrison, T. S. White, D. M. Warren, and D. W. Bagley. On 7 July 1930, the Wright Memorial Bridge Company was formed with the same purposes as the Kitty Hawk Company. It was founded by W. G. Gaither, L. C. Blades and W. L. Jones. The company ceased operations after the state took over the function of collecting tolls on Wright Memorial Bridge.
