J. Gaskill McDaniel Photograph Collection


This collection contains photographs pertaining to New Bern, NC, c.1890's-1960's, associated with Joe Gaskill McDaniel (1910-1976) and the New Bern Mirror newspaper. Known more often as J. Gaskill McDaniel, McDaniel was the publisher of the New Bern Mirror and a respected journalist and writer whose work also appeared in other papers such as the Raleigh News and Observer. He was also a published poet (Vagabond Verses, 1931) and a charismatic leader in the local community who put on a Christmas pageant called The Yuletide Review with local talent for many years in New Bern.
