This collection of postcards was donated to the State Archives on December 12, 1993, by Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Lilly, Jr., 612 Scotland Street, Raleigh, N. C. 27609. It was accessioned by the Archives in May, 1994.

The postcards were collected by Dr. Henry T. Lilly. The collection contains views of Canada, Cuba, France, Great Britain, and the United States. Most of the postcards are American views and include images from 27 states and the District of Columbia. Dr. Lilly purchased some of the cards during his travels overseas as a soldier during World War and acquired others during his trips across the United States. Some of the postcards were mailed by him to his parents, Rev. and Mrs. D. Clay Lilly, and to his sister Anne and brother Edward. The postcards date from the 1910s to the 1960s. The collection also contains an assortment of foreign Presbyterian missions, ships, and German propaganda cards.
