These photographs were donated to the North Carolina State Archives by Mr. Luther C. Hodges, 2345 Airline Drive, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607, on March 29, 1994. The collection was accessioned in April, 1994.


The eight, 8 x 10 prints depict the launching of the merchant ship S. S. Zebulon B. Vance from the shipyard at Wilmington, North Carolina on December 6, 1941. The oversized drawing contains a view of the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1940.
