This collection of prints was donated to the State Archives by Mrs. Elizabeth C. Swindell, Springmoor Retirement Community, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27612. Mrs. Swindell, who died on April 2, 1995, donated the photographs to the archives on March 30, 1995. They were accessioned by the archives in May, 1995.

Two of the photographs are views of Bingham School near Mebane, North Carolina, 1897-1898. The first is of a group of students and teachers posing on the front porch of a building on campus. The people are identified on the reverse of the picture. The second image contains a view of students and a teacher posing with bicycles. The other two photographs are of Colonel Fred Olds with the "Sunshiners," a boys club, on an outing to Beaufort, North Carolina, ca. 1905. One is an interior view of Col. Olds and the boys standing in a dining hall with a table containing plates of food. The other is an outside view of Col. Olds and the boys positioned on a pier with a recently caught shark. The photographs were taken by J. P. Hayes of Raleigh.
