The photograph was donated to the State Archives on December 30, 1996 by the United States Department of Interior, National Park Service, Petersburg National Battlefield, 1539 Hickory Hill Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803-4721. It was accessioned by the Archives in January, 1997.

The photograph is an image of the south side of the State Capitol Building, Raleigh, ca. 1900. The view includes the statue of George Washington, the stairway with cannonballs leading to the statue, and the brick walkway on the south side of the Capitol near the head of Fayetteville Street. The photograph was taken by an unidentified photographer about 1900. The photograph has been placed in a 5 x 7 acid free sleeve and placed numerically with the other photograph collections.
