Maxey, a resident of Raleigh, was not a commercial photographer, but took these photographs as an amateur.Most of the images in this collection are of Raleigh, but there are a few of Guilford Battleground, the Fayetteville Centennial Celebration, and a Duke vs. UNC football game, in Durham.

Mrs. Jeanette M. Eaker, 105 Christopher Lane, Westminster, South Carolina 29693 donated the collection to the State Archives on March 8, 1999. Mrs. Eaker is the granddaughter of Mr. Maxey. They were accessioned by the archives in April, 1999.
