David Stick, historian, author, philanthropist and founding benefactor of the Outer Banks History Center, has long been a prominent figure on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Son of the artist Frank Stick, David moved with his family to the Outer Banks in 1929 and steadily developed an interest in the region, its people and its history. He authored many books about the region, most notably  Graveyard of the Atlantic (1952),  The Outer Banks of North Carolina (1958), and  Roanoke Island, The Beginnings of English America (1983).

Outer Bankers To Be Remembered consists of nineteen biographical narratives of men and women that David Stick wanted to recognize before their achievements were forgotten. Spanning 165 years, the collected works offer insight into a host of philanthropists, entrepreneurs, eccentrics and other people of note that have made an impression on the Outer Banks region.
