Wright Memorial Bridge Company and Kitty Hawk Company Records


The Kitty Hawk Company was formed in 1929 with the chief purpose of constructing a toll bridge over the Currituck Sound from Point Harbor to Kitty Hawk, to collect tolls, and to develop land in the Kitty Hawk beach area. This included selling lots, building roads, and providing necessary infrastructure to the development. On July 7, 1930, the Wright Memorial Bridge Company was formed with the same purposes as the Kitty Hawk Company.

The Kitty Hawk Company was formed in 1929 with the chief purpose of constructing a toll bridge over the Currituck Sound from Point Harbor to Kitty Hawk, to collect tolls, and to develop land in the Kitty Hawk beach area. This included selling lots, building roads, and providing necessary infrastructure to the development. The original directors were: R. Bruce Etheridge, W. G. Gaither, W. O. Saunders, L. C. Blades, Charles W. Harrison, T. S. White, D. M. Warren, and D. W. Bagley. On July 7, 1930, the Wright Memorial Bridge Company was formed with the same purposes as the Kitty Hawk Company. It was founded by W. G. Gaither, L. C. Blades and W. L. Jones. The company ceased operation after the state took over the function of collecting tolls on Wright Memorial Bridge.

This collection features a notebook with meeting minutes for both the Kitty Hawk Company and the Wright Memorial Bridge Company. Certificates of incorporation, as well as bylaws and amendments, are included for both companies. In addition to the meeting minutes, there is also a folder containing stock certificates, financial records, as well as correspondence. The majority of correspondence is from the 1950s after the company went defunct, regarding the investigation into land that may have still belonged to the company.
