The Chamber of Commerce can trace its origins to the 1940s. Originally known as the Nags Head Chamber of Commerce, it was one of several Chambers that were incorporated and in competition during the 1940s. The Nags Head Chamber of Commerce (later renamed the Greater Nags Head Chamber of Commerce) is the only one of these groups to survive. It is still in existance today and operates under the name of the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce.
