This small collection contains mostly letters of recommendation written for C. C. Duvall by several companies in Dare County, including the Dareforest Store Company and The Bank of Manteo. One letter to Duvall fires him from his position with the Dareforest Company. There are also three receipts, one for goods and the others for property taxes. Although this is a small collection, it is important because of the relative dearth of historical information about Buffalo City, a now-defunct town on the Dare County mainland located within the present-day Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Buffalo City's main industries were lumber trades and during Prohibition, bootlegging of alcoholic beverages.
