Sound recordings for most interviews are present; when a tape is not present, that has been noted in the finding aid.

Biographical/Historical

The oral history interviews in this collection were collected and used to create a technical report entitled Ethnohistorical Description of the Eight Villages Adjoining Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Interpretive Themes of History And Heritage. This project was completed over the course of 2002-2004, with the final report being published in 2005. The project focused on eight communities located on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, with the goal of understanding the region's social, cultural, and economic history. Research for the project consisted of oral history interviews with residents of the communities, social mapping, and exploration of existing primary sources. The National Park Service hired a social science research firm, Impact Assessment, Inc., to complete the research.
