Collection Overview
The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce Records, 1967-1989, includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, press releases, membership lists, and minutes and agendas for both the Board of Directors' and Executive Committee meetings. Also included is information on America's 400th Anniversary, highways and ferries, Waterfowl Weekend, the USS Monitor Project, the Mariner's Club, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Visitor's Center.

Historical Note
The Chamber of Commerce can trace its origins to the 1940s. Originally known as the Nags Head Chamber of Commerce, it was one of several Chambers that were incorporated and in competition during the 1940s. The Nags Head Chamber of Commerce (later renamed the Greater Nags Head Chamber of Commerce) is the only one of these groups to survive. It is still in existance as of 2020 and operates under the name of the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce. It is a nonprofit membership organization representing 1,100 businesses on North Carolina's Outer Banks. The service area includes Currituck County, Dare County, and Ocracoke Island in Hyde County.
