Collection Overview
The League of Women Voters of Dare County Records, 1987-2018, contains administrative
records, newsletters, and clippings created by the league from the time of its inception.
Included in the collection are minutes from board meetings, annual meetings, and other
meetings; early copies of the Citizens Guide, newsletters, clippings, and publicity
related to the group.
The addition of 2012 largely consists of political candidates' survey responses and
background information created for various voters' guides (also called voters' services
in the collection) created by the group in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The addition of 2018 contains press releases, 2009-2018, arranged in scrapbook format.
The addition of 2019 contains meeting minutes and administrative records. Chronological
files in this series consist of meeting minutes, newsletters, notes, event flyers
and programs, financial records, newsclippings, membership data, and other papers.
Included in this series are three files of historical material gathered by member
Pat Storey for inclusion in the group's 25th anniversary celebrations. Also included
are numerous folders related to the services the group offers to voters, including
voter forums, a voter's guide, and publicity surrounding upcoming elections.

This collection is arranged into six series: Annual Meeting Minutes, General Meeting Minutes, Board Meeting Minutes, Press Notices, Newsletters, Organizational Papers, and three additions: 2012, 2018, and 2019.

The League of Women Voters of Dare County is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The Dare County group was formed in 1987 with fifteen members with Diane Henderson serving as the unit representative. Each year the organization publishes the Citizens Guide, a directory of elected officials and local services; sponsors public candidate forums; and hosts programs that increase awareness of public services and community issues.
