Biographical/Historical

The Dare Minority Coalition was founded in 2019 to promote racial justice in the greater Dare County community. One of the group's first major initiatives was a peaceful protest centered on a moment of silence for victims of police brutality held in June 2020. This event was part of a wave of protests across the country held in response to the murder of George Floyd by law enforcement officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in May 2020. The Dare Minority Coalition event consisted of speeches, musical performances, prayer, moments of silence, and a march in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The event took place in downtown Manteo.

As an extension of the organization's mission to promote racial justice and equality, the Dare Minority Coalition supports a reentry program for formerly incarcerated citizens reentering the workforce, promotes access to affordable housing in Dare County, sponsors scholarships for local students, and participates in other forms of community outreach. As of 2022, the group still exists but appears to be inactive. The founder and executive director of the Dare Minority Coalition is George Carver, Jr.
