Biographical Note
This collection relates to the family of Aubrey E. Rogers of Elizabeth City and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Aubrey Rogers (1925-2005) was born in Manteo, North Carolina, to Marvin and Janie Shannon Rogers. Marvin Rogers (1904-1957) was from Elizabeth City and moved to Roanoke Island in the 1920s and opened a barber shop. He married Janie Shannon (1902-1971), a native of Roanoke Island. Janie was the daughter of John Francis Shannon (1861-1933) and the granddaughter of Nathaniel A. Shannon (1819-1896), who is believed to have been shipwrecked on the Outer Banks in the mid-19th century after having sailed from England.
