This collection is apparently compiled from the writings and research material of
Mary Ormond White Fuller. It includes photocopies of typewritten and handwritten notes,
family trees, articles, clippings, genealogical records, and other research material
related to the Millers of Hatteras Island. The collection consists entirely of photocopies
that were created at an unknown date but appear to date from the 1990s-2000s.

Collection Overview
This collection is apparently compiled from the writings and research material of
Mary Ormond White Fuller. Included is an unpublished manuscript entitled Hatteras
Island Families, ostensibly authored by Fuller, as well as photocopies of typewritten
and handwritten notes, family trees, articles, clippings, genealogical records, and
other research material related to the Millers of Hatteras Island. The collection
consists entirely of photocopies that were created at an unknown date but appear to
date from the 1990s-2000s. Papers relating to individual Miller family ancestors consist
exclusively of family trees and family group records; there are no photographs, personal
papers, or detailed information about these individuals included in the collection.

Biographical/Historical
The materials in this collection appear to have been compiled from the research of
Mary Ormond White Fuller, who went by Ormond and was born 20 December 1922 to Maude
Miller White (1900-1987) and Estus P. White (1892-1972) in Columbia, North Carolina.
She attended Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and became a teacher after
she graduated in 1940. She married George R. Fuller and relocated to Buxton, where
she owned and operated the Cape Hatteras Court motel and Ormond's Clothing Store.
She was active in the community and an avid fisherwoman. Ormond had a special interest
in the history and genealogy of Hatteras Island and spent years collecting and researching
local families. She died 8 October 2013 at the age of 90 and is buried in the Miller
Family Cemetery in Buxton.
This collection primarily focuses on the Miller family of Hatteras Island, from which
Ormond was a descendant. The family's genealogy has been traced back nine generations,
beginning with Thomas Miller (b. 1785) who left his son, Thomas, Jr., 50 acres of
land on Hatteras Banks. The family has a long association with the United States Lighthouse
Service and the United States Lifesaving Service.
