Helen Vane Steer Lost Colony Script and Notes


Helen Vane Steer (1926 - 2001) came to Roanoke Island for two weeks in May of 1985 to serve as a dialect coach to the cast of The Lost Colony drama. The British-born Steer, an associate professor at East Carolina University, guided the cast in the use of dialect and accents of Devonshire, Cockney and aristocratic British. She retired May 31, 1988 with the rank of Associate Professor Emeritus.
