Biographical/Historical

Lynda Midgett is a resident of Manteo, N.C. She was married to Arvin Midgett, who died in April 2017. Over the course of her life, she was involved in numerous civic organizations, including the Roanoke Island Historical Association, Dare County Arts Council, and Dare County Board of Elections. Dare Day was organized in 1975 to coincide with the United States Bicentennial celebrations and has been held annually since then. The event includes concessions, arts and crafts vendors, musical entertainment, dancing, and activities for children. Midgett became involved with the first Dare Day celebration in 1975 as a volunteer. She has coordinated the event since at least the 1980s. In 2009, she received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce.
