Joseph Daniel "J. D." Wall (1919-1986) was born in Marion, North Carolina, to Thomas G. and Nellie Ownsby Wall. He grew up in a large family and attended Marion Public Schools. Prior to enlisting in the military during World War II, Wall worked as a waiter at a local café and at the Marion Construction Company. In the early 1940s, he married Pauline Faye White (1922-2011), also from Marion. They had two children, Joseph Daniel Wall Jr. and Wanda Wall. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Marion.The J. D.
