Abstract
Mabel Clarie Conley (1904-1995) was the third of six children born to Caleb E. and
Ada Hayes Conley of Lenoir, N.C. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1921 and
continued her education at Davenport College in Lenoir, where she received her general
diploma in 1924.
The Mabel Conley Scrapbook consists of one scrapbook chiefly covering her time at
Davison College.

Collection Overview
One scrapbbok chiefly covering Mabel Conley's time at Davenport College in Lenoir,
N.C., a two-year college of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in operation from
roughly 1857-1933.
Biographical/Historical
Mabel Clarie Conley (1904-1995) was the third of six children born to Caleb E. and
Ada Hayes Conley of Lenoir, N.C. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1921 and
continued her education at Davenport College in Lenoir, where she received her general
diploma in 1924. For a short time, Mabel served as postmistress of Hudson, N.C.
By 1930, Mabel was teaching French and living as a boarder on Church Street in Monroe,
N.C., along with two other young teachers. She moved to Raleigh, worked as a secretary
at North Carolina State College and was a member of the Business and Professional
Women's Club.
Mabel returned to Lenoir in 1948. She was amember of the Hudson Methodist Church where
she was active in the Mayme Hayes Circle. She was also a member of the Hudson Garden
Club.
Mabel Clair Conley is buried at Sardis Cememtery in Hudson, North Carolina.
