Scope and Content:

The News and Observer newspaper's working print files consisting of photographic prints and miscellaneous image-based materials used in the newspaper and by the newspaper, the bulk of which date from the 1950s through the 1980s. 111 boxes arranged alphabetically by Subjects including placenames and events, 176 boxes arranged alphabetically by People's Names, 1 Miscellaneous box, and 1 box of prints to be refiled. Also included in this donation was one box of ephemera, three large photographs that once hung in the offices of the News & Observer and depict longtime News and Observer editor Josephus Daniels when he served as Secretary of the Navy c.1913-1921, and one original cartoon by an unknown artist on the topic of the Stoneybrook steeplechase.
