the Employment of Women and Minors, Governor's Conference, the legislature, Democratic

Federalists. Also includes correspondence with other labor commissioners, governors,
and state officials.
Arrangement Note
Biographical/Historical
Originally the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the North Carolina Department of Labor
was created in 1887 by the North Carolina General Assembly. The Department of Labor
has since grown into an agency which administers laws and programs affecting the citizens
of North Carolina. Today, the North Carolina Department of Labor is charged with promoting
the "health, safety, and general well-being" of the working people in the state.
